Obituary for Delys Callahan (Gilbert) It is with great sadness that the family of Delys Callahan, 90, of Manalapan, New Jersey, announces her passing peacefully at her daughter’s home in Essex, Connecticut on November 4th, 2022. The daughter of Sarah Purcell Gilbert and Arthur Gilbert, she was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York before settling in Manalapan, NJ in 1965. Delys started out in banking and then worked for the Wall Street Journal for a number of years before moving to New Jersey. Delys was married to her wonderful husband Don for 70 years and will be lovingly remembered by her immediate family and numerous other family members and friends. She was a loving wife and devoted mother to her two daughters. Among her many interests were decorating, gardening, cooking, antiquing and hosting wonderful gatherings with family and friends, filled with music and stories in her immaculate home. She also loved a quiet night in, with a cup of tea and a classic old movie or crossword puzzle. She was predeceased by a sister, Sheila Gilbert, and brother Edward Gilbert. Delys is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Callahan of Manalapan, NJ, Helen Sant’Andrea of Essex, CT and granddaughter, Ellis Grace Sant’Andrea of New Haven, CT, and her sister Marilyn Gilbert Davidson King, of Brooklyn, NY. A private family service took place, where Delys joined her husband, Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 2:00PM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown (Wrightstown), NJ. All arrangements are under the direction of Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, Centerbrook, CT.
